Home Depot

September 18, 2006

This past weekend Home Depot was offering a don’t pay for a year deal when you spend more than $450…haha so I took FULL advantage of that buying…well…lets just say I had no problem clearing the $450 mark :( . The list is huge and I’m probably leaving something out but:

* Stainless steel microwave
* Stainless steel range hood
* Seven light fixtures
* Light bulbs
* Twelve gallons of paint
* Paint brushes
* Painter’s tape
* Granite vanity (Oopps, I mean MAN CUPBOARD) counter top
* Bathroom fixtures
* Toilet tank, bowl and seat
* New handles for my kitchen cupboards (eighteen of these)
* Heating register covers (seven of these)
* Wooden blinds for six of my windows
* And whatever else I’m forgetting…

So that was my shopping spree on Sunday afternoon.

With respect to my weekend, Friday night I worked on the house and then watched When Harry Met Sally with Jillian. Saturday I worked some more and held the FIRST poker game ever at my place (won $25) and went downtown (ridiculous down there, left and was home by 1am). Sunday was the shopping spree, family dinner then went for a walk with Jillian and watched Big Fish (great movie).

All-in-all it was a great weekend.

Cheers!

“At first I thought, if I were Superman, a perfect secret identity would be “Clark Kent, Dentist,” because you could save money on tooth X-rays. But then I thought, if a patient said, “How’s my back tooth?” and you just looked at it with your X-ray vision and said, “Oh it’s okay,” then the patient would probably say, “Aren’t you going to take an X-ray, stupid?” and you’d say, “Aw fuck you, get outta here,” and then he probably wouldn’t even pay his bill.”

Weekend

September 11, 2006

Well I had a very nice weekend.

Friday night I finished the second coat of urethane on the floors upstairs and then relaxed by playing some poker before I hit the sack.

Saturday morning I went and plunged even furthur into debt by ordering new stainless steel Whirlpool appliances for my kithen (fridge, stove and dishwasher). Went by MC Decor and paid for the last of the tile I ordered from them. Then it was off to the mall with my sister to find a birthday gift for mom. I got home just in time to pay my tile installer for all his hard work and then I went and saw his finished work (the washroom upstairs looks amazing). After that it was time to apply the final coat of urethane to the floors upstairs. After kicking my ass I laid down for a quick nap then it was off to the movies with Jillian to see the Covenant. I didn’t think this was going to be an Oscar worthy flick by any means, but it wasn’t that bad! :P The acting wasn’t that great and the special effects were okay…all-in-all it was laughable and Jillian and I did pretty much that…laughed while watching it, so that was a good time.

Sunday was a relaxing day. Watched some football, played with the dogs (Russell and Max – Russell is my sister’s toy poodle…she bought him a couple weeks back and him and Max are hilarious together). I also met with a friend of mine who is in the furniture business and I got some information I needed in order to plunge EVEN FURTHUR into debt yet again tonight on my way home from work! I’m not 100% sure I’m getting what I talked to him about, but if I do…OH BABY…anyhow, not going to get too excited yet as there are two BIG obstacles surrounding this purchase:

1) Size, “it” is a tad big but I might be able to make it work.

2) Money, “it” is slightly more then I was looking to spend…then again, that’s never stopped me before so really its all about the size issue I suppose.

Sunday night we had a nice family dinner (BBQ Steaks are the best done on a charcoal BBQ…we came to that conclusion) with some nice wine and ice cream cake.

Well, there you have it. My weekend in a nutshell…well not really a nutshell, more like a large paper bag…but what would a blog from me be if it wasn’t long winded and extremely malformed?!

Cheers!

P.S. New Bond trailer is available here and I think it shows that this WILL kick ass! I’ve never been a huge Bond fan, but I have a feeling this is going to be a good one!

Great Weekend!

July 31, 2006

Great weekend!  Spent Friday night buying tile for the downstairs landing and a few other things for the house.  Saturday morning was sanding at 7am while I waited for the carpenter and window guys to show up.

The carpenter was awesome and got all my doors hung downstairs and trimmed up so-to-speak.  The window guys installed my basement windows and they are AMAZING…get this, they actually close and open with ease and close ALL THE WAY for that matter…crazy I know!

My drop ceiling guy brought the materials he needs to get started but decided to come Monday (tonight) to do the work because there were already too many bodies in the basement (3).

On Sunday Craig and my brother helped do some sanding and overall cleaning of the house and I was really impressed with how much was accomplished this weekend overall.

Saturday and Sunday night my “free time” was spent watching Clerks 2 and Miami Vice…both were OK but not spectacular.

Cheers!

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest

July 10, 2006

This was as good as I thought it would be (aside from all the talking eighth graders at the 10pm show). The action sequences were good, the story wasn’t bad and the acting was good (Still can’t stand Orlando as anything other then a fairy with pointy ears).

I give it an 8 out of 10, hopefully the third will be just as good or better.

Cheers!

Superman

July 10, 2006

I saw the much anticipated Superman movie a week or so ago and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.  The effects were great, the acting was good (Spacey did well with his over the top Lex Luther) and the story wasn’t bad!  Seeing as how this could have been disastorous I say (if I had to rate it) I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.  Good movie, see it in theatres, the opening save is worth it!

Cheers!

Jack Black Lied To Me

July 10, 2006

Nacho Libre was – as I predicted (yet had to see) – a bad movie!

In his confessionals Jack Black hyped the movie and said, and I quote “The word’s out, we have the best movie in Hollywood!”.   Well, he lied…it sucked.  Aside from the funny parts that you see in the trailers and a couple of one liners (“Take it eassssyyyy”) you don’t get much out of this movie.

Save your money, at best it’s a renter…at best!

Cheers!

Two And A Half Hours Of My Life I’ll Never Get Back…

January 12, 2006

A couple of days ago while at work I got an instant message from Shelley telling me that she just heard Mike on KROCK and he had just won tickets to see some movie. I thought “Nice, I better email him and call dibs on one of the tickets” – thinking that hey, a free movie is good no matter what it is.

WRONG! You see, the free movie was “The New World” starring Colin Farrell. This was BY FAR the worst movie I have seen in years. I had very low expectations going into this movie because I had seen the trailer and it looked horrible (but as I said, I figured a free movie was good no matter what it was). Now, normally when I have lowered expectations for a flick I end up coming out pleasently surprised (i.e. Fantastic Four) but not even that could save this movie!

This movie was sooooo slow in building to a climax that never happened – sometimes there was about 5 to 10 minutes without dialogue. Instead, we were treated to a symphony of whinning violins and fluttering flutes! GARBAGE! I think we can all agree that I’m no artist, but I am capable of appreciating “artsy” flicks if the movie is done with some sort of plot in mind. But this thing was trash. I found it hard to even grasp the point of this movie. The same old stuff was in there, like modern people coming in and taking “the naturals” land, destroying their habitat, converting them into mindless workers, blah blah blah…now, all that stuff normally works in a movie but they took these concepts and crapped all over them with horrible dialoge (or a lack there of) and transitionless scenes – there must have been about 20 to 25 black screen transitions in this movie.

Now, I could go on and on (kind of like this movie – felt like it was never going to end) about how brutal this thing was but I’m starting to have flashbacks to sitting in the theatre so I think it’s best I just stop now before I go postal and throw my monitor off the balcony here at work!

Anyhow, all I can say is that this “sneak preview” COMPLETELY back fired on who ever made this POS movie because the applause that rang out through the theatre after this thing was over wasn’t because it had a Star Wars cult following that was still creaming over Yoda’s swordsmanship, but instead were applauding because it was FINALLY over.

Quote of the night goes to some guy leaving the theatre after the movie:
“Thanks KROCK for not letting me spend my own money on this crap!”

Cheers!
Andrew

P.S. Miami Vice better be amazing for Farrell’s sake and that the next Batman better kick ass so Bale still has at least two good movies to his credit!

The New World

Grossly Misunderstood

December 19, 2005

King Kong SPOILER WARNING:

Well I saw it this weekend, and let me tell you it was a great escape…BUT, oh so sad! OK, I know everyone knows how it ends (if you don’t, stop reading now)!

I knew how the show was going to end, I mean we all knew they were going to kill the beast. I was alright with that before the movie started but once Kong got a hold of Ann and we (the audience) were treated to the silent dialogue between Kong and Ann I began to understand that he was just grossly misunderstood. Of course he was ugly and hairy and probably smelt a bit too which I’m sure were all reasons that led to his demise, but aside from that he was alright. The only character who gave him a chance was Ann (she didn’t have much of a choice) and once she got over the smelly part she grew to realise he was a gentle and loving creature that could also kick some ass when the need arised (three T-Rex’s in one scene = AWESOME).

Anyhow, I know this blog is really fracutred and I’m not sure how to word it any better…”Why are you so off Andrew?”…well I’m glad you asked, you see…I’m a pretty sensitive guy (SURPRISEEEE) and this movie got to me. I’m actually mad that it got to me. However, despite my anger and resulting depression I realise that that is what made Kong such a good movie (aside from the amazing effects and good acting – Jack Black annoyed the piss out of me as Carl Denham), the fact that the character development was so well done that you leave the theatre pissed off because they killed Kong.

Ugh, see! Now I’m even more frustrated because not only did King Kong piss me off but now I can’t even write a “deep” blog about how depressed it made me! DAMMIT! Screw it, I’m going to be one with nature now in tribute to my good buddy Kong!!!
